Mathematics research at GSSI

Research and graduate studies in Mathematics at GSSI deal with mathematics in natural, social and life sciences. Mathematics is the universal language of science and it is an essential tool in the description of the scientific knowledge. In addition to the traditional applications in the physical sciences and engineering, mathematical methods have now become a fundamental tool for the most advanced research in many areas of social sciences and life sciences. The complexity of new applications continually poses questions of new methods, which necessarily stimulate research of great originality, in which the traditional boundary between pure mathematics and applied mathematics is now no longer feasible. The GSSI mathematical students and researchers are open to dialogue with other scientific communities, since the integration of interdisciplinary skills is the approach most likely to succeed.
